IB Social LifeYour social life as a student attending the IB programme at Hasseris Gymnasium will be dependent upon one thing, you, the individual student, and how much time you put into getting to know your peers. The IB programme is full of unique and friendly people from many different countries and cultures who will gladly welcome and include another student. Of course, life can be tough for any student starting at a new school and perhaps even one in a new country with different school traditions, but the best thing about the IB system is that everyone can empathise with your situation somehow. Throughout the year a number of social activities are arranged to bring the school’s IB students together across cultures and year groups. Each year in September IB students have the opportunity to get to know each other in a comfortable, informal atmosphere on the ‘IB Day’, an event where 3i students plan an excursion as well as activities for the rest of the IB students somewhere outside school. This year all students went to the island of Doomholm (also known as Egholm…) to be pirates for a day. Although the IB Day is a relatively new idea for the IB programme at Hasseris Gymansium, it has had a profound, positive effect on the way in which IB’s interact with one another on an everyday basis at school – but also outside school. Last, but certainly not least, the IB Christmas party affords students a chance to prepare a special dish and contribute to not only the ‘potluck’, but the Christmas spirit as well.
