Exams and Assessment

In pre-IB all exams are internally assessed by teachers from Hasseris Gymnasium and IB School. During the IB Programme exams are both internally and externally assessed. You can read more about IB assessment methods on www.ibo.org/diploma/assessment/

Exam outline for Pre-IB and the IB Programme at Hasseris Gymnasium & IB School

  • Pre-IB, autumn: General Science
  • Pre-IB, January: General Linguistics
  • At the end of pre-IB: Written and oral mock exams in some subjects
  • Throughout the IB-programme (2.i & 3.i): Oral and written Internal Assessments (IAs) and portfolios
  • At the end of 2.i: (hand)written mock exams in most subjects
  • Around Christmas in 3.i: (hand)written mock exams in all subjects
  • At the end of 3.i: (hand)written exams in all subjects (over 3 weeks, 2 to 3 papers in each subject)

IB Grading System
A student’s examination performance in individual subjects is scored on a scale of 1–7 points with a further 3 points available based on a matrix of performance in theory of knowledge (TOK) and the extended essay. To achieve an IB Diploma a candidate must achieve a minimum of 24 IB points with the maximum possible diploma score being 45 points (IB grade 7 in 6 subjects plus 3 bonus points).

Subjects are marked according to the following scale:
7 Excellent
6 Very good
5 Good
4 Satisfactory
3 Mediocre
2 Poor
1 Very poor
N No grade

The TOK course and the extended essay are graded according to the following scale:
A Excellent
B Good
C Satisfactory
D Mediocre
E Elementary
N No grade
